MusicMan Stingray

When the late Leo Fender sold the Fender Musical Instrument company to CBS in 1973 he did not hang up his router and soldering iron. After his ten year non competition contract expired in 1975, Leo was announced as president of Music Man inc.

One of the first products of this new company was the Stingray bass, which carried the legacy of the Precision to its ultimate conclusion. It was an immediate hit with players and has now become a classic.

(In 1978 Leo split with Music Man to form G&L guitars with ex-Fender buddy, George Fullerton.)

In 1984 the Ernie Ball company took over management of Music Man, who continue building high quality instruments in San Louis Obispo, California.

This bass was a birthday present to myself in 1998, chosen from a large selection of Stingrays at Gelb Music of Redwood City, CA. and has replaced by trusty '76 P-Bass as my main "player".
