Rickenbacker 4003

This familiar Rickenbacker bass design made its debut in 1957 as the model 4000 - sporting one horseshoe pickup - which stayed in production until 1984!

This 4003 model was introduced in 1979. It started as a model 4001 redesigned for use with round wound strings (basically an improved truss-rod system). In 1986 the 4003 replaced the 4001 entirely. The first edition of the 4003 had a dual pickguards and truss-rod adjustment at body end. The second version had a single pickguard and truss-rod adjustment at headstock.

Rickenbacker, of course, is one of the oldest musical instrument makers in the US, founded in 1931 by Adolph Rickenbacker and George D. Beauchamp, as "Rickenbacker Electro Instruments", the manufacturers of the first modern electric guitars.
