'76 Fender Precision

I bought this instrument new in 1976 - quite a big deal at the time - my first pro-quality bass!

What can I say... it's an American Standard Precision Bass. For sure, the 70's were not exactly a high point in Fender's history, but this example is solid, has no problems and served me well for years.

The Precision was a refinement of Leo's original Telecaster Bass design introduced in the 1950's. The pickup and bridge covers and thumb rest were already anachronisms when I bought this (and immediately removed them!) and were discontinued shortly afterwards.

Now that I have effectively retired this bass (my main fretted bass is now the Stingray), I have replaced the bridge and pickup covers (also known as the "ashtrays") and the thumb-rest, which were removed during its playing life. When it was in regular playing use I also replaced the pickup with an active EMG replacement (I still have the original).

The arctic white colour has yellowed slightly (though it's hard to see in the photos)
