Dingwall Afterburner I-5

Now my "go-to" fretted 5, this bass was hand made in the wilds of Canada (Saskatoon to be precise) by Sheldon Dingwall and his team.   If youy want one for yourself you'll have to order directly from Sheldon and put your name on a waiting list (which is now about a year long!). As the advert says, these are "not available in stores"!

I was lucky enough to find this one used, and it's pretty much exactly what I would have ordered if I was buying one new. This saved me a long wait and significant cost!

The signature feature of Dingwall's basses is the Novax fanned fret system which results in longer strings and higher tension on the bass side - in fact the B string is 37in long vs 34in (standard "long scale" length) for the G string.

The body is ash, with a beautiful figured maple top. The neck is maple with a wenge fingerboard. No position markers.

The electronics are all passive (no batteries to replace), but it is still one of the loudest punchiest basses I own .

The pickups are Dingwall's own, with a four-way selector (I, II, serial, parallel) and volume and tome.  There's also a switch for the "Blue Cube" tone shaping circuit.

Dingwall Endorsees include bass legend Leland Sklar, who has his own signature model.
