Like some other instruments I own, this started life an an amazing value bass from the mad folks at Rondo Music. A gorgeous looking neck-through bass with active electronics for less than $200. True. Of course, to hit that ridiculous price point they had to cut a few corners, especially in hardware. Thus was born my next "project bass". Every non-wood part of this bass has been replaced with high quality aftermarket parts. A high mass Schaller bridge anchors the strings at one end, and a Graph-Tech nut at the other. Gotoh tuners keep the tuning stable and new Bartolini dual coil pickups and a Bartolini active pre-amp shape the sound any way you need. In order to use the existing four holes for controls, I'm using a stacked control for bass and treble. The original knobs have been replaced with black ones to match the rest of the new hardware. Even with all the added extras, this bass is still amazing value. |
