Baritone Project Guitar

This Project guitar started like as a cheap Chinese (OLP brand) copy of a Music Man Silhouette Bass - which is not really a bass at all, but a baritone guitar.

It is interesting as one of the few "real" baritone models available, being tuned A-A - about halfway between a traditional guitar and a bass guitar.

The first phase of the project was to strip out all the cheap hardware and electronics - leaving only the body, neck and frets!

The tuners were replaced with locking Schaller M6's, the nut is Graph-Tech. Pickups were replaced with Seymore Duncan Jazz (neck) and JB2 (bridge) models.

The bridge was replaced with the Graph-Tech "Ghost" piezo pickup system embedded in "string-saver" saddles.

The new electronics started with a Graph-Tech "Ghost" pre-amp system (which can be expanded to drive a MIDI hex output in the future), and includes a bright/dark switch for the piezo system and a blend control. The regular pickups have stacked volume controls, a phase reversal switch and a single tone control (stacked with the piezo blend control).

Finally, the output jack controls power to the preamp, and detects whether a mono or stereo cable is used. If a stereo cable is detected it separates the regular and piezo signals so they can be processed independently. If the cable is a standard mono guitar cord, the blend control allows the signals to be mixed.

Cool Features:

    - True Baritone A-A
    - Unique pickup/electronic layout
    - Rare: only made for about a year
    - Rear placement of the bridge allows the

instrument to be no longer than a standard
      guitar
    - Unique sound - unlike a guitar OR bass
